Our 2016/2017 Season
The CMWC Comox began the 2016/2017 season with a small performance during Rexspo 2016 on September 10th at the MFRC in Comox. In addition, an information booth was set up at the recreation fair to share with the 19 Wing community what our choir is all about. The response from those interesting in joining the choir was phenomenal so you’ll be seeing some new faces this year! The Choir performed at the Heritage Stones Ceremony on September 18th where our own choir sister, Amanda had a stone dedicated in her father’s memory.
October was a busy month as the choir was preparing new materials and rehearsing core songs for November/December. November was absolutely jam-packed with performances at the CVCDA Telethon; Candlelight Vigil and Remembrance Day services at the Comox Cenotaph; Newcomers Dinner; Moonlight & Magic; and Filberg Lodge & Holiday Market. Our choir was busy through December with our seasonal concert as well as many carolling events to local senior’s housing and the hospital.
In January 2017 we celebrated our 2nd Anniversary as a choir and added three new voices to our group! We are busy preparing for new songs which will revolve around our beautiful country, Canada as the nation celebrates it’s 150th birthday.
On March 4th, the Choir took part in the Choral Valley’s Spring Choir Festival where an amazingly enriching day was spent with five other choirs singing for Clinician Dr. Graeme Langager who provided constructive critique and advice to all.

In May, the Choir held a successful Garage / Bake / Craft Sale to help with fundraising efforts at Invictus. We also performed at the Officer’s Mess for TGI Friday and held a Bake Sale at the Coco Love Alcorn concert. At the Local Hero Awards in Comox, we performed, “We Wear Red,” for the first time in a public audience. This is an original composition written by our very own choir member, Lesia. Also in May, we sang with the Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir at the Celebrating Canada 150 (Songs from Sea to Sea to Sea) Concert held at the Comox United Church.
Fundraising efforts continued in June with a Bottle Drive and Car Wash/BBQ.
On June 11th, CMWC Comox held their annual Spring Concert celebrating Canada’s 150th.
AND WE MADE OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL …
On September 23, 2017, we were honoured to join with our choir sisters throughout Canada to perform during the opening ceremonies with British Soprano, Laura Wright, at the the 2017 Invictus Games.
The CMWC Comox truly had an eventful and fun 2015/2016 season. Kicking off with an inaugural crew on ten in January 2015, the choir has grown two-fold since then. They’ve been busy singing locally for events such as Canada Day celebrations, Nautical Days, Anzac Day; they fit in time for some Christmas carolling for Seniors and even “sang” one of their own down the aisle for a summer wedding.
The choir also bid a tearful goodbye to founding member and former president, Brenda Dunne this summer. Brenda was inspirational in bringing this choir to fruition. The choir members wish her well in her new posting and will be forever grateful for her dedication and commitment to making Comox the second CMWC in Canada.
Other events this past season included the the chance to open for The Tidesman Barbershop Chorus in May 2016 and also sing for the Catholic Women’s League Convention that same month! One of the highlights of the 2015/2016 season would include singing the National Anthem at the BC Lions Football game at BC Place.
